all things club, culture, and cool.

DJ, producer, harpist, event programmer, social worker, socialite, and…writer?

My name is purp, i’m a 20-something creative in Brooklyn. and I look forward to utilizing this platform to create a dialogue from my point of view on all things club, culture, and cool in this day and age. I mean, I might as well continue to put this Psychology degree to use, right? Life can’t be all clubs and fun!

On my Hero’s Journey in NYC, I have been blessed enough to connect with the Photodom team through their Operations Specialist, Csyan, AKA BodegaParty. This person has brightened my blue skies since meeting them in 2022, and I intend on keeping our friendship as fresh as flowers.

My first introduction to Photodom was through an event Csyan curated themselves. Csyan hosted a panel of DJ talent in NYC, both new and old. These ‘DJ LINKUPS’ have been an opportunity for the community to come together and share knowledge, tips, and breakdown any gates that have been previously kept by naysayers.

Csyan’s carefully curated conversation topics pushed the envelope and made us think deeply about what it means to have the responsibility of being a Disk Jockey in Brooklyn today. And all the many titles and hats that also go with being one. On September 7th, an intimate group of 30-something guests, and 3 panelists, all gathered in Photodom’s gorgeous recreation studio, with views overlooking the infamous Myrtle-Broadway, to share our experiences as a DJ. Her questions were thoughtful, insightful, and most importantly, pushed the envelope of discussion forward for future conversations.

The event was topped off with an open-decks at local favorite, Bar Jade, where the same group was able to unwind, decompress, and kiki amongst one another after an evening of enlightenment. Being highlighted as a DJ with something of substance worth saying has meant so much to me, and was a beautiful first way to be introduced to the greatness that is Photodom studios.

This multifunctional space acts as a full Photography studio, film processing and merch store, and community event space. The space boasts big windows and high ceilings, making anyone who enters feel like the world has more to offer them and creativity knows no bounds. The owner, Dom, has successfully handpicked his Avenger’s style team, that help him run the show. From film processing, to day-to-day emails, to social media management and event production, the Photodom team has everything they need to keep the show running smoothly. This one stop shop for all things film in Brooklyn continues to be a staple in underground and mainstream culture. At our events, we use a lot of film and disposables to capture the energy of a party in real time-and we always make sure to hit up Photodom for our processing at the end of a long but fun weekend. This company has continued to work with nightlife in capturing the intimate details of our events and producing pictures that stand the test of time. There should be no wonder why i’ve chosen this site as the healthiest, hippest platform to immortalize my thoughts to come on all things club, culture, and cool.

Stay tuned for more from me, a purple girl with her ears to the streets.
